ktm's Sensors Damaged During Washing The Bike
Ktm, as we all know is an unbelievably constructed engineering perfection. And I am happy with the bike from all perspectives however sometimes it cant handle heavy monsoons of India and surf excel. Well I am not washing my bike with surf. Soaps are not friends of bike mainly the once which are made for track and comes with sensors and ecu.
This is how the story goes, after washing my car I had some soap solution left with me. So with some spare time to kill I thought why not wash my a little dirty but awesome bike. with that in mind Istarted housing water from the pipe and socked the bike in water. it was a low pressured hose and was not the reason for my bike not wanting to start. after socking I used some soap solution which was left from the car wash and cleaned my bike and I was happy with my shine mat ktm RC. So I was busy and had to leave town for couple of days. After two days I came back and thought of riding it and when i put the key in the ignition it showed messages that I had never seen in the instrument LCD before.
First it was low fuel level. Then it showed the radiator coolant temperature was high and then the gear shift indicators didn't work properly. so now I was sure that it was that the sensors had some issues. So I tried to get the bike dry by blowing hot air from the vacuum cleaner and so on. Had no luck and the bike was not started as I hoped for. With no luck I called up KTM ALUVA and they said to bring it to the service shop. The thing was water had penetrated and gone inside most of the sensors and the bike was showing all kinds of warning from its blown sensors. I took it to ktm and they did an awesome job and cleaned all the sensor sockets and the sensors and gave my bike back. I was really happy about it and they did an awesome work.
So the lesson is that. Do not use soap or detergents in the middle section of the bike. Where major sensors lie. and if you wash your bike, make sure you keep them dry after washing. If some thing happens to your sensor or the wiring kit, you might have to break your bank to fix them so care for your bike and it will last
